specialists register Jorge Faustino and Marco Ferreira analyze Joao Pinheiro’s refereeing at Sporting Benfica (2-2), from Round 33 of the Bwin League.
Mark Ferrera: Note 3
He dominated the match on a technical and disciplinary level. He decided well on zonal bids and maintained a wide standard, which gave flexibility to the course of the match. Disciplinarily, he made some errors in the analysis, leaving some yellows undisplayed. Good help
Jorge FaustinoNote 2
Joao Pinheiro provided an excellent referee in what is always a very difficult game. A foul on a difficult assistant move, which only VAR can “save”, had an effect on the score and thus prevented a positive note.

JF – Antonio Silva, who could no longer play the ball, positioned his body in order to block the pass of Trincao who followed him in an attacking move. A tactical (non-sports) foul is well punished with a direct free and a yellow.

MF – Throw in Sporting’s area with Aursnes to intercept the ball with Diamonde and Esgaio without offense. Players move towards the ball with normal contact. Next, record Aursnes. Good decision to validate.
GF – It was an apparently legal charge by Esgaio on Aursnes that led him to collide with Diomande without any possibility of avoiding this contact. Aursnes has no shortage of action which later ended in a goal.
88th minute
MF – Coates hits Gonçalo Guedes from behind, preventing him from continuing a promising attack. Good show, free and yellow
JF-Cotes swept and kicked Gonzalo Guedes, bringing down the Benfica player when he was sprinting in what could have been a promising move. Yellow card and a lie. good decision.
90 + 4 min
MF – Splashed into Sporting’s area where Coates bumped into Florentino who won the pole without a foul. After the play, Joao Neves scored. Good decision to validate Benfica’s goal
JF – An attacker who puts himself in an offside position must be penalized with a side free kick and thus obstructs a defender moving into the area, for being offside. That’s what Florentino did. Poorly validated.
