Through its neurology service, the Sisaram Centre, this week, performed the first endoscopic spine surgeries in the region.
Pedro Lima, director of the service, explained that five surgeries have been performed using this technology, which allows patients to be discharged from the hospital on the same day without pain and return home.
This method, with an incision length of about 1 cm, allows any spinal surgery to be performed. Herniated discs, devices, narrow canals and other spine-related diseases are resolved using this technique.
The service explained: “In some diseases related to the spine, the surgical wound can reach six centimeters, which leads to a longer recovery time. With this technique, the recovery period is significantly reduced, allowing the patient to return to activity more quickly.” exit.
This technique uses a tube that has a camera at the end that passes images to a screen. Surgery is performed under the guidance of what appears on the screen, and there is no need for eye contact with the patient.
Specialized surgeon Robert Sabić, from the Ligamenta Clinic in Frankfurt (Germany), was on hand at SESARAM to provide guidance on this surgical technique.
