Season 1 of MultiVersus, the free-to-play version of the Super Smash Bros. crossover fighter, will begin August 15th, developer Player First Games tweeted Thursday night. The season was initially scheduled to begin on August 9, but the studio announced last week that the release had been delayed for technical reasons.
Along with news of the season’s start date, Player First Games announced that Rick and Morty’s Morty will join the MultiVersus roster on August 23, and his arrival was also delayed last week.
Player First Games is also committed to adding “New Modes and Content” throughout the season. Before the first season was postponed, half of Rick and Morty was planned to be added at some point during the season, but it’s unclear if that’s still a goal.
Morty wasn’t the only confirmed character for Season 1 of MultiVersus, as his grandfather Rick Sanchez will also join the roster during the game’s inaugural season. A release date for Rick’s addition has not been announced.
The developers also shared what Season 1 of MultiVersus will add to the game, including online ranked lobbies, a single-player arcade mode, and more characters in addition to the already confirmed Rick and Morty.
Quick note: everything we bring to you in Season 1 won’t drop on the same day. New modes and content will be released during the life of the season. We’ll keep sharing the dates on all the fun stuff to come!
