Through the Ministry of Health, the city of São Bernardo is ramping up over the course of this week measures to combat dengue, chikungunya and Zika virus, as the week ends to combat arboviruses in neighborhoods. And work began on Monday (3/7) and extends until Friday (3/11), with strengthening the guidelines for the prevention of these viruses, through inspections in homes, commercial establishments, industries, roads and squares. The goal is to identify potential breeding sites for mosquito larvae that transmit diseases, as well as the ongoing work of the portfolio throughout the year.
“The best method is always prevention. Therefore, it is necessary to count on the support of the population, who should pay attention to the organization and cleaning of places that can serve as breeding grounds for mosquitoes, and in these days of collective effort, to allow agents to check for the presence of this vector both at home and in the workplace. Our support for this mobilization is essential. Personnel are duly selected in these very practical raids”, highlights the mayor of São Bernardo, Orlando Morando.
dynamics – There are nine teams, with approximately 15 agents each, supported by a reference UBS in each inspected area. The task force is coordinated by the CCZ, which defines the scope of these collections, materials and inspections, with support from ACSs (community health agents). Teams together direct actions to the nearest UBS, in the case of people showing symptoms of arbovirus. In all, the nine districts of the municipality, which include all neighborhoods, will be visited.
“Currently, we have not recorded cases of chikungunya, due to our preventive work and also due to the greater social isolation in the epidemic. We have achieved a significant reduction in dengue cases from 2020 onwards. It is worth mentioning the collection, identification and control of Aedes aegypti mosquitoes, especially in the most vulnerable areas. There is ongoing work to raise awareness in the population throughout the year, with guidance, inspection and collection of larvae – when identified – and delivery through our health network,” The spotlight is on the city’s health minister, Geraldo Rebel Sobrinho.
Balance Sheet 2021 – Over the past year, there have been 213 cases of dengue, 12 of chikungunya, and no cases of Zika. There was an 115% decrease in the volume of dengue cases recorded in 2021, compared to the total in 2019 (pre-pandemic). Another positive aspect of the Clarion–Clipperton Fracture Zone raids is that areas that were already restricted to arboviruses are no longer fixed foci of Aedes aegypti mosquitoes, such as Montanhão (Vila São Pedro, Alto da Boa Vista, Vila da Biquinha, Areião and Parque São Bernardo).
