Russia on Friday bombed the Ukrainian railway network to prevent the passage of a convoy carrying weapons from Western allies, a source from the security authorities in Kiev said, a claim confirmed by Moscow's military.
According to a Ukrainian official quoted by Agence France-Presse, the attack was aimed at “crippling” the supply of military supplies, part of which Western countries had sent to help Kiev fight Russia.
The same source added that Moscow carried out a series of attacks on Ukrainian railways, pointing out that such actions “are classic measures before an attack.”
He added that the goal “is to paralyze the delivery and transportation of military goods.”
But the Russian army announced that it had struck a convoy in the Ukrainian Donetsk region (east) that was transporting Western weapons for delivery to Kiev.
The Russian Ministry of Defense said that “a convoy of Western weapons and military equipment was bombed near the city of Udashny,” without providing further details about the outcome of the attack.
Ukraine has relied on financial aid and weapons from Western allies since Russia invaded the country on February 24, 2022.
