Ricky Jervis jokes about Will Smith’s assault on Chris Rock
The comedian posted a clip from “The Office” joking about the disproportionate reaction that marked this edition of the Oscars.
The well-known comedian and host of the five-time Golden Globes could not resist and today he got into his own way in the drama Will Smith opposite Chris Rock. Without getting over the bush, Gervais went straight to the most sensitive situation, which spurred the aggression we witnessed last Sunday: Jada Pinkett Smith’s autoimmune disease.

Smith slapped Chris Rock after the comedian made a joke about the appearance of Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, who has a shaved head. The actress suffers from alopecia areata, although it’s unclear if Rock was aware of this at the time.
The embarrassing moment happened during the 94th Academy Awards. Chris Rock took the stage to present the golden statuette for Best Documentary Feature. Before uttering the names of the nominated films, he made a few jokes, referring to Will Smith’s wife, saying that he was looking forward to the sequel to “GI Jane.”
Will Smith got up from his chair, walked up to the stage and punched him. The comedian was visibly embarrassed by the situation but many of the stars in attendance thought it was a theatrical moment.
Smith’s uneven reaction, as expected, led to a proliferation of memes. One, created by Jervis himself, who added a caption to the photo of Will’s attack on The Rock: “When they say they prefer the American version of ‘The Office’.”

In 2001, the BBC premiered The Office, a simple comedy turned cult series. It launched Ricky Jervis’ career, emphasized her mimetic style and led to a successful American remake where Steve Carell starred — and influenced much of the comedies that have been made since.
You can now see the scene being used as a joke on Filmin’s streaming platform. Gervais’ “The Office” episodes arrived earlier in March in Portugal.
