FFormer Benfica coach Ilebi Gomes gave an interview to Wednesday’s edition of Record newspaper in which he claimed he was sacked after reporting an alleged scheme to fund the handball team.
He added, “I was surprised by what was happening in handball. I thought it was out of the ordinary (…). At the end of July, beginning of August, I revealed what was happening and reported the matter to the vice president, Fernando Tavares, who asked me to stay away from it.” These operations, stressing that he will try to solve them himself.
“I went to the ward on Friday [25 de agosto], the day on which there was a handball training match with Marítimo, and also the day on which the investigation process was lifted and Leandro ended up being suspended. “As soon as I got there, I called Fernando Tavares because I wanted to talk to him personally so we could meet.”
