The Quinta Vigia Gardens became a red carpet, at the end of the afternoon of the 22nd of June, to receive the organization of what is considered the most important television awards in the world.
Today, a gala dinner hosted by Miguel Albuquerque, President of the Regional Government of Madeira, will be attended by a delegation of 35 people (25 jurors representing the three national television channels, plus the Brazilian Globo; members of the organization and guest representatives). On behalf of the Academy, Emmy Awards jury director Nathaniel Brendel will be in Madeira.
As for the national stars, the protagonist of the Portuguese Netflix series ‘Rabo de Peixe’, José Condessa, who will attend the event, among other faces known to the Portuguese public, such as Cristina Ferreira and Ana Guiomar.
Tomorrow, after a closed voting session, in the main hall of the Madeira Provincial Government Building, the nominees for the Best Actress category (“Best Performance by an Actress”) will be revealed.
These awards from the International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences annually recognize the best television programs worldwide. Programs are selected in several categories, and in the end, the most voted receive the prestigious international Emmy Awards.
The semi-finals have been held in Portugal since 2016, supported by the Universo brand, a financial services brand of the Sonae Group, and the regional government of Madeira.
Last year, the national championship was held in Lisbon, and in 2019, on the island of Corfu in the Azores.
The Emmy ceremony takes place in November, where the winners of each category will be announced.
Portugal has already distinguished itself with three Emmy Awards in previous editions, with the telenovelas Meu Amor (TVI), Laços de Sangue (SIC/TV Globo co-production) and Ouro Verde (TVI).
