On Friday, Benfica officially appointed Spaniard Jota Gonzalez as the new coach of the handball team for the next season.
The 51-year-old Spaniard arrived from Paris Saint-Germain, where he was an assistant, to replace Chima Rodriguez. After three years at Benfica, Rodriguez will be a full-time coach for Hungary.
“I am very happy to arrive at Benfica, I needed this, at an important club that has been doing things very well in recent years. I come with the same wisdom, to fight for all the titles. But words alone are not enough, we have to show it every day. I am an ambitious coach.” I like to win everything. I think I’m a hardworking coach, I worry a lot about details. It’s important to know what to do and when to do it against all competitors. My style is hard work and hard work down to the last detail,” he introduced himself to BTV.
And the coach talked about what he expects for the next season: “I think we will make a competitive team and we have to fight for all the titles. Handball is growing a lot in Portugal, and we can see that the teams have achieved very good results at the European level and the level of the Portuguese League has risen as well. It’s a good moment to come here, a moment of growth.”
