The PSD deputies, elected by the Algarve, will confront the Ministry of Health about the “deficiencies” of the Monchique Health Center. The “Sentir Algarve” initiative, initiated by the Circle of Social Democrats, passed in Monchique on Saturday 25 February.
On this occasion, a visit was made to the health center in Monchique, which suffers from a “critical lack of human resources, in particular doctors.”
According to Bruno Estremores, advisor and head of the PSD / Monchique, “There is only one doctor, and even more so on a part-time basis, as there should be five, which jeopardizes basic assistance to the population, from limited care to prescriptions. Which was not done in time.”
“We demand that more doctors be employed to meet the needs,” he said.
For Cristovao Norte, head of the PSD/Algarve, “what we saw in Monchique we saw everywhere, with the aggravating factor that there is no hospital on the doorstep of this population.”
“It is the failure of primary care that then completely clogs emergency departments in hospitals and throws the system into chaos. Between consultations and surgeries, there are more than 12,000 people from the Algarve with exceeding the maximum guaranteed waiting times and many of them – the elderly and the frail – are presenting surgeries in hospitals in the north of the country », he accuses.
