VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) is one of the main features of the new generation consoles, but despite the fact that the Xbox Series X was launched with active technology, Sony’s PlayStation 5 received only the “new” in the latest firmware update.
Something, in a very strange way, led to an increase in performance and image quality, which is very attractive to fans of the gaming ecosystem of the Japanese giant Sony PlayStation.
PS5: The introduction of VRR brought significant improvements!
So, VRR, which was released in the last days of the PS5, brings some graphical improvements, and turns the gaming experience into something very fluid. In fact, the truth is that the difference was more pronounced than expected, as you can see in the video below, which attempts to show the impact of technology, in the more diverse game modes of the supported titles.
To give you an idea, the increase in FPS was really big, even if I activated 4K resolution, or the Ray-Tracing function. In many cases, the FPS increase has reached 50%.
Ultimately, Spider-Man goes all the way up to 96fps in Performance mode with active ray tracing, and up to 60fps in 4K (Loyalty) mode. On the other hand, Ratchet And Clank manages to reach 110 fps in performance mode with active ray tracing, and of course, it also delivers 60 fps in 4K mode.
Interestingly, even in games with “captured” FPS, as in the case of Resident Evil Village, the improvement in game fluidity is noticeable, since VRR allows to eliminate hiccups, as well as input lag.
However, although it is possible to activate the function for everything that enters the PS5. It is recommended to use VRR with compatible addresses only. The list is still low, but is expected to increase significantly in the near future.
