book Capitalism, Austerity and Public Health in Brazil – Political Economy Perspectives, organized by UFES, United States and United Kingdom researchers, will be launched this Monday, 24th, at 1 pm, in the Auditorium of the Graduate Program in Integrative Health in the UFES (PPGSC) Building, Marup Campus. This event is open to the public.
This work was produced through an international collaboration between Professors Carlos Eduardo Siqueira of the University of Massachusetts Boston, USA; Jonathan Philippone, Queen Mary & University of London, UK; and Francis Sodré and Maria Angélica Andrade, from PPGSC-Ufes.
The book presents a critical approach to the political economy of capitalism and its implications for the Brazilian health system. “We analyzed health systems affected by a period of economic austerity, which had an impact on the withdrawal of universal health systems in different parts of the world”, explained Chodre, who coordinates the research project. New public administration and the privatization of public health systems in Brazil and the UK.
This publication is the result of the activities of the Institutional Internationalization Program of Ufes (PrInt-Ufes) funded by the Coordinating Fund for the Development of Higher Education Personnel (CAPS). Foreign Universities.
PPGSC-Ufes collaboration with two foreign teachers made it possible to offer an optional course based on the theme of the book and taught in person by the four authors. In addition, they will also be teaching Global Health, an elective open to other postgraduate programs, from 24 to 28 April, 1pm to 5pm.
