Prince Harry owes £1 million, about R$6.2 million, after losing a case against the British government for removing his personal protective equipment after he left royalty.
The youngest of King Charles III resigned from his royal duties in January 2020 and has since struggled to maintain the security service provided to him by the British authorities.
British newspaper Daily Standard reports that the prince is still likely to appeal the UK court's ruling, but he is expected to pay £1 million for losing the court.
Since his resignation in January 2020, Harry has lost his right to security services provided by the British government to all members of the British royal family.
He has already attributed his reluctance to frequently return to the UK with his wife, actress and Duchess Meghan Markle and their two children, to a lack of security.
Harry was recently in London for a quick visit with his father after the monarch's cancer diagnosis. Markle was last in England in September 2023 to attend the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II (1926-2022).
The prince has already said his children will not feel “at home” in the UK if they “can't keep them safe”. After the defeat at the British court, Harry and his family have a tendency to further distance themselves from England and the royal family, according to the British newspaper Daily Mirror.
Despite his abdication, Harry remains fifth in line to the British throne. First is Prince William, his three children – Prince George (age 10), Princess Charlotte (age 8) and Prince Louis (age 5).
