As part of the “Open Health” initiative promoted by the Ministry of Health, the Secretary of State for Health, Ricardo Mestre, and the members of the ULSBA Board of Directors met with the municipality of Mértola and visited the facilities of the Centro de Saúde de Mértola, with the aim of acquainting themselves with the problems identified by President Mario Tomei and taking them long ago to Competent authorities, regarding access to health care in this province.
According to the Municipality of Mertola, during the visit, the Mayor of Mertola showed concern for the lack of professionals, and presented the incentives provided by the municipality to encourage the establishment of doctors in the local health center, specifically the newly proposed health center. The Doctors Appointment Support Regulation which is currently under public discussion and will come into force soon.
At the same meeting, the members of the executive authority also demanded the reactivation of the various services present in the Mertola Health Center, such as the x-ray service or the full operation of the analysis laboratory, and the immediate opening of the center’s expansion of the health center.
