Portuguese immigrated to Luxembourg João Barbosa created the “Mundo Lusófono” platform to connect “immigrants, companies, products and services”, in order to overcome physical borders and promote their “cultural roots and values”, he told Lusa today.
In this digital initiative, it will be possible to access job offers, local Portuguese-speaking business products, travel reservations “at exclusive prices”, public institutions, associations and events, announced the founder of the Lusa agency.
João Barbosa graduated in Marketing Management and Business Technologies, where he decided to create “a place where immigrants can find a little bit of home, no matter where they are.”
He added that because of his closeness to Portuguese, Angolan, Cape Verdean and Brazilian cultures, he feels like a “Portuguese-speaking citizen.”
For companies, he added, the platform promises unprecedented visibility, “reaching more than seven million Portuguese speakers,” spread across the world without the need for “significant monetary or technological investment.”
“It is an opportunity to effectively expand the business and connect with the community [lusófona]“, declared João Barbosa.
The idea came from realizing the need to overcome the lack of some Portuguese-speaking products, as well as creating a platform that collects useful information for the immigrant community.
The founder confirmed that the platform will be available “anywhere in the world”, but “it has a geolocation function, which allows for more relevant local suggestions.”
The platform does not manage shipping fees and policies, as it “only connects the seller to the customer.”
So far, this project has been financed with its own capital, but João Barbosa does not rule out the use of other investments in the future.
The origin of the products on the platform depends on who joins the platform, however, João Barbosa intends to make products available from all Portuguese-speaking countries, initially in countries such as Luxembourg, France, Switzerland, Belgium, Germany, the United Kingdom, the United States and Canada, which have a presence Strong for Portuguese-speaking immigrants.
