More than two-thirds of Americans and 54% of Democratic voters believe President Joe Biden should drop out of the November election race, a poll released Thursday showed.
TV station survey News letters And the newspaper Washington Post It reveals that only 30% of voters believe Biden should remain in the race, at 81 years old and after the June 27 televised debate, which once again raised doubts about his mental agility and ability to hold on to a second four-year term.
Only 42% of Democratic voters think Biden should stay in the race, while more than 70% of independent voters — who could be key to winning the White House — think Biden should drop out of the race and make way for Vice President Kamala Harris, a presidential candidate.
The poll suggests that national voting intentions remain the same — at 46% each for Biden and Republican nominee Donald Trump — while in a hypothetical matchup between Harris and Trump, the current vice president would receive 49% of the vote to 47%.
The poll was conducted July 5-9 (after the televised debate) among more than 2,400 North American adults and has a margin of error of 2%.
