The possibility of giving up membership in NATO – the North Atlantic Treaty Organization – in exchange for peace with Russia is considered unacceptable or undesirable by a majority of Ukrainians, according to a survey conducted by the Center for New Europe, revealed by the Ubyan Pravda newspaper on Tuesday. .
According to the poll, 67% of Ukrainians considered the possibility of giving up NATO membership or declaring Kiev’s neutrality in exchange for peace with Moscow to be completely unacceptable (57%) or extremely undesirable (10%): only 12% believe this is acceptable. option.
The poll also showed that 71% of participants opposed making concessions to Russia regarding Ukraine’s accession to the European Union – 61% considered it completely unacceptable and 10% undesirable – while only 11% agreed to support this measure.
Ukrainians showed greater resistance to proposals to cede temporarily occupied territories to Russia rather than liberate them – more than 76% flatly rejected this idea and 8% considered it undesirable. 88% of Ukrainians also ruled out reducing the Ukrainian Armed Forces, as well as granting the Russian language the status of an official language (80%).
Finally, if a referendum were held today, 78% of Ukrainians interviewed would vote in favor of joining the European Union, and 77% in favor of joining NATO.
