The national polio vaccination campaign has been extended until September 30, by the Ministry of Health (MS). The measure, which began on August 8, will end on Friday, the 9th, but due to reduced vaccination coverage, it has been extended. All children between the ages of one year and under five years old should receive the polio vaccine.
In Blumenau, as of Tuesday, 6,126 children have been immunized, which equates to a coverage of 35.5% of the 17,479 children who make up the target audience. In 2015 during the campaign, the basic polio vaccine exceeded the target and 103.6% of the target audience was immunized. In 2018 and 2020 during the campaign, the average coverage ranged between 83% and 77.88%, respectively.
The epidemiological surveillance team in Blumenau notes that coverage is below expectations and that it is essential that parents and guardians take their children for polio vaccination. There is no cure for polio and vaccination is the only way to prevent it. Recently, after 10 years of no record of the disease, the USA identified a case of polio.
Vaccine application
The application of immunomodulators is still available in strategic family health (ESF) units and family outpatient (AGF) clinics with vaccination room. The list of active vaccine rooms is located in Site.
It is not necessary to wait 15 days between the application of the Covid-19 vaccine and other vaccines.
