The Regional Secretary for Health and Civil Protection, Pedro Ramos, participated today as a speaker in the fourth session of the Health Forum, at the invitation of his counterpart Clelio Meneses.
At the event, which brought together government officials responsible for health in the Azores, on the island of São Jorge, Pedro Ramos highlighted the investment that has been made in this area, listing some of the actions that have been implemented in recent years and that currently project Regional Health for the Age of Digitization and Innovation.
At this forum, the regional health ministers of the Azores and Madeira announced the creation of a long-lived International Center for Macaronesia, following the cooperation agreed at the recent summit of CEOs of both archipelagos, held in Funchal, last September.
Pedro Ramos said that this longevity center will allow “to ensure an integrated response to the problem of aging. Madeira has the same problems as the Autonomous Region of the Azores. We have created a regional directorate for integrated public policies on longevity, precisely to have a team dedicated solely to this situation”, He said.
During the fourth session of the Health 2030 Forum, the official briefed all attendees on the health policies and strategies implemented in RAM and re-emphasized the importance of creating an isolated health response plan (Madeira and Azores) with the aim of ensuring, an integrated response to health emergencies, that respects the uniqueness of the island. “Madeira and the Azores bear the responsibility to create different health systems that are healthy, safe and sustainable,” he stressed.
