It took four years Pedro Benim and husband, Mark Lohan, were able to fulfill their desire to become parents. In December last year, the couple headed to Canada to bring their daughter, Amalia, two and a half months, was born through surrogacy. Since then, the artistic director of the Teatro Nacional D. Maria II and the British journalist have experienced days of passion, learning and love. “It was an amazing experience, all the clichés fit so perfectly. I don’t think I’ve been so happy in my life and that’s proof that this experience is going so well. She’s so sweet, so well behaved and so sweet, we’re so lucky. It’s amazing that You feel immense love for someone as soon as you meet them. It’s been a desire and a struggle of ours for so long, so fulfilling it is wonderful, even if it’s tiring.”supposes Pedro, with whom we spoke at the play’s premiere The hatred.
D. Maria II’s director also told us that Amália’s care duties are shared: “We both do everything, diapers, bathing, bottle-feeding, getting dressed. We share everything. It’s going so well, I thought it might be more difficult, but we prepared well. We spent a month and a half in Canada, where I was born, and we had Time to be with her and understand her.”
