PCP/Açores today considered that the fire at the Hospital do Divino Espírito Santo (HDES) revealed the “weaknesses that exist” in the health sector in the region and in the access of Azoreans to it.
“The tragedy that occurred with the HDES fire has revealed even more clearly the weaknesses existing in the health sector, and the increasing difficulties faced by many Azoreans who need medical care: problems that are not new, unfortunately, and are widespread in all the islands,” he points out in a press release.
The regional leadership of the PCP/Açores party (DORAA), which met on Saturday in Ponta Delgada, considers that the regional public administration is “undervalued and underfunded”.
According to the communists, “in many cases, the exploitation of those who work there is increasing, with increasingly clear consequences in terms of the lack of services and response to the needs of the population.”
For the communists, the Azores were witnessing “a gradual deterioration in the social and economic situation, and an increasingly marked inequality between the islands and the Azorean population.”
According to the communists, the regional government “insists and insists on statements of intent and investments that do little to address the real life problems of Azoreans.”
On the other hand, the PCP/Açores expresses its “solidarity and support for the workers who do not resign, as demonstrated by the week of struggle organized by the CGTP, for a general increase in wages, for 35 hours and for the struggle against precarity”.
