Elon Musk has announced that temporary reading limits have been implemented on the social network Twitter, according to reports The Guardian newspaper. The decision, according to the businessman, comes in response to “extreme levels” of data mining and system manipulation. In the past few hours, several users in Portugal have reported difficulties on the platform.
According to Down Detector, as of 1 p.m., complaints about the social network Twitter were up, with 41% focusing on the site, 39% on the app, and 19% on the feed.
Elon Musk explained that verified accounts were temporarily limited to reading 6,000 posts per day. Unverified accounts and new (unverified) accounts were limited to reading 600 content per day and 300 per day, respectively. “The limits will soon increase to 8,000 for verified cases, 800 for unverified cases, and 400 for new unverified cases,” he said.
Twitter will now require users to have an account on the platform to view posts. According to Musk, this is also a “temporary emergency measure.”
Elon Musk, who has previously criticized AI companies like OpenAI (which owns ChatGPT) for using Twitter data to train language models, said hundreds of organizations extract data from Twitter “very aggressively,” affecting user experience.
And the Guardian newspaper reported, on Saturday, that thousands of users reported problems with the service, the most important of which is the restoration of tweets and the disappearance of the timeline or followers. “Twitterdown” was one of the most repeated comments on “Down Detector” in the UK.
