Have you ever dreamed of getting up in the morning and looking out the window and seeing penguins? This can be achieved.
British Charitable Society Antarctic Heritage Fund Published new business opportunities for its Port Lockroy base, located on Goudier Island in the Palmer Archipelago, west of the peninsula Antarctica. Among the announced jobs, two of them stand out: penguin watcher And Post Office Coordinator.
The hired professionals will have to live in harsh conditions, with limited power, no running water and no internet connection. The base works with conservation efforts and provides information to visitors. It has been closed since the start of the pandemic, and as it reopens to the public, new business opportunities have emerged.
The post office coordinator must manage all communications with the local agency, which receives about 80,000 mailings each season. The penguin monitor will send reports to the British Antarctic Survey Research Centre, which performs analysis and remote monitoring of species on the continent.
The Foundation is also looking for a Core Leader, Store Manager and General Assistant who will work in the gift and mail store from November 2022 to March 2023.
Applications must be submitted by 20:59 on April 25. People from outside the UK can also apply, but they need a work visa for the country.
Training for the positions will take place in Cambridge in October.
