The Secretary of State for Health, Ricardo Mestre, inaugurated the Family Health Unit – Porto de Mar – Sines. This is the first unit of its kind in the Alentejo Litoral region and one of 222 new USF-B units that went into operation across the country on January 1.
The Sines Personal Healthcare Unit (UCSP) team, led by Doctor Tania Barcellos, has developed a care project in recent months that has allowed them to be one of the ten units to move directly from the UCSP model to the more advanced model of healthcare. Family health unit.
USF Porto de Mar will provide family health care to about 8,500 users, and professionals will now be paid based on their performance.
“By strengthening primary health care, we are convinced that we have a model that has proven its effectiveness, and with USF-B, we can attract and retain professionals and provide more timely and proactive responses to both acute and chronic diseases,” said Riccardo Mestre.
The Sines USF Unit is currently training five trainees in general medicine and family medicine, and it is hoped that this unit will play a crucial role in strengthening other USF units in the Alentejo Litoral region.
The opening ceremony was attended by the city's mayor, Nuno Mascarenhas, and council member José Manuel Arsenio, who expressed their desire that the new operating model of the health unit would lead to better working conditions for professionals and better health care for the population.
