Scientists have discovered a new species of plant of the genus stenostephanus (acanthaceae) in the forest of Utica National Park in central and southern Peru.

According to this body, under the tutelage of the Peruvian Ministry of Environment, the new species found in the Otice National Park is named Stenostephanus brevistamineus and is characterized by having a habitat and distribution limited to solid forest ecosystems, with soils fertilized with humus.
This species is found in the garden area located in the province of Satepo, in the Rio Tambo region, in Junin.
This discovery is the result of an analysis of herb collections and images of specimens, conducted by researchers Rosa Villanueva and John R. I. Wood, affiliated with the Department of Plant Ecology at the University of Oxford and the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew, in the United States. kingdom.
Sernanp also announced the opening of a grant competition for priority research in protected natural areas, to provide financial support to Peruvian researchers focused on environmental, economic and social issues.
The competition seeks to award 13 research grants, 10 in nationally protected natural areas, two in Paracas National Reserve and one in the Guaneras, Ilhéus and Pontas National Reserve System, which was partially affected by a major oil spill in January.
