New British Foreign Secretary David Lammy met his Polish counterpart on Sunday as part of his first international trip to seek to strengthen the United Kingdom’s ties with the European Union.
Strengthening support for Ukraine in its conflict with Russia was the focus of a meeting between Lamy and Polish Foreign Minister Radek Sikorski, who received his British counterpart in Sobylin, 300 kilometers northwest of Warsaw.
Lammy said Britain’s “key partners” in Europe – Poland, Germany and Sweden, all members of Nato – were coming to talks on cooperation and defence.
The new British minister insisted that Britain’s military, economic, political and diplomatic support for Ukraine would be unwavering, while seeking to restart dialogue with Europe on climate protection, energy and migration.
Lammy was appointed to the Foreign Office on Friday, following Labor’s victory in the UK election.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer will travel to Washington on Tuesday to attend a NATO summit marking the alliance’s 75th anniversary.
