Naughty Dog has announced the cancellation of the project known internally as The Last of Us Online, a project that appears to have been troubled and was posing some unexpected difficulties for the entire product.
In its letter explaining the cancellation of the online project in the world of The Last of Us, Naughty Dog emphasizes that it has not been standing still and this is by no means the only project that exists or has been ongoing. There are many single player projects and some of them are sequels.
“We have more than just an ambitious new single-player game working on here at Naughty Dog, and we’re excited to share more about what’s next when we’re ready,” wrote lead developer Neil Druckmann.
Druckmann’s words will certainly leave The Last of Us: Part 3 in the minds of many, especially since the project’s narrative ideas can be used online, but Uncharted will also be an easy name to keep in mind.
New intellectual properties are also possible, since Naugty Dog has suggested that Uncharted is dead.
