The NASA has announced that it has decided to change its plans to bring samples collected by the Perseverance rover on Mars to Earth, noting that the program will now contain two additional helicopters in addition to Creativity – already on the ‘red planet’.
As you remember a file EngadgetThe original plan of NASA was to send another spacecraft to Mars, which, after collecting the samples obtained by perseverance, would transfer them to a small rocket that would be launched towards Earth. However, the US space agency realized that it could simplify this task.
In place of the rover, NASA plans to launch two helicopters with a similarly intelligent design — the small helicopter that has already completed nearly 30 flights to Mars — that could carry persistence samples to the rocket.
“We made this decision based on new studies and recent achievements on Mars that allowed us to consider options that, frankly, were not available a year ago.”One NASA official, Thomas Zurbuchen, admitted.
It is believed that this task will take place at best in the fall of 2027.
