In the second half of 2024, the Brazilian multinational WEG will expand the plant located in the Ermida Business Park, in Santo Tirso, as a result of a project that will increase the production of electric motors and generate 100 new jobs.
The construction company responsible for the project and construction, Garcia Garcia, said in a statement that the expansion of the multinational company’s second manufacturing unit will contribute to “increasing the production capacity of one of the world’s leading companies in the manufacture and sale of electric motors.” .
The new unit of Brazilian multinational WEG will be built next to the existing unit in the Ermida Business Park, in Santo Tirso (in the Porto region), giving the company a total area of 45 thousand square meters.
Expected to begin work in the second half of next year, the new unit will involve relocating the existing unit in Maya to Santo Tirso, “with all the company’s activities remaining centralized” in the business park.
The company currently has 750 employees in Portugal, and with this expansion project it is expected to employ more than 100 workers in the coming years.
The investment will also increase production capacity for European and North African markets.
The Brazilian multinational company operates in various sectors such as infrastructure, steel, paper, cellulose, oil and gas, mining, among others.
