The Portuguese pilot came to the ground 16 minutes after the end of the session and never returned to the track
Miguel Oliveira crashed at Turn 10 in the second free practice session for the German Grand Prix and was unable to go straight into Q2 (he was 15), the qualifying session involving the drivers who will fight for first place tomorrow.
Portugal’s RNF Aprilia rider, who is looking to get back to top fitness after fracturing his left shoulder in Jerez, crashed about 16 minutes before the session ended and has not returned to the track. According to SportTV, Oliveira – who crashed at the Italian Grand Prix, last Sunday – is fine and will go into Q1 tomorrow, trying to secure one of the two places to get into Q2.
The second session at the Sachsenring was marked by several crashes. Raul Fernandez, Oliveira’s teammate, Nakagami, Maverick Viñales, Fabio Di Gianantonio and Alex Marquez also fell.
But the most impressive crash was the one involving Marc Marquez and Johann Zarco. The Spaniard lost the front of his bike and took the Frenchman down, forcing a red flag, 3 minutes from the end of the session. Márquez and Zarco eventually got back on the track, but were unable to better their respective times.
Here are the 10 drivers who qualify for Q2: Marco Bizicchi, Jorge Martin, Alex Espargaro, Francesco Bagnaia, Jack Miller, Fabio Quartaro, Luca Marini, Enya Bastianini, Alex Marquez and Johann Zarco.
This Saturday, the two qualifying sessions will take place, as well as the sprint race scheduled for 2pm.
