Altice Portugal, the owner of MEO, has demonstrated in the past its ability to bring technologies to the established Internet that have transformed the sector. It now claims to be the first to introduce technology that “revolutionizes the speeds available on the Internet, providing symmetrical experiences”.
In a statement, the company revealed that it was the first to introduce the technology XGS-PON For all customer segments through a pilot project. This is an Internet that promises consistent, symmetrical Internet speeds that far exceed current speeds.
This technology will cover customers who are resident and commercial in nine Portuguese cities: Aveiro, Braga, Castelo Branco, Évora, Faro, Leiria, Lisbon, Porto and Viseu. The goal is to “ensure decentralization of technology deployment, testing in different contexts and project enrichment.
This project was developed by Altice Labs in coordination with Altice Empresas and MEO. It claims to be “the latest XGS-PON optical network technology that will revolutionize consistent internet speeds in Portuguese homes and businesses”.
What awaits you with XGS-PON technology at MEO?
“Customers of Altice Portugal brands using this technology have the opportunity to browse at speeds that, with the development of equipment and networks, may in the near future reach values close to 10 Gbps symmetric transmission (either download or upload),” the operator promises.
In addition, you will be able to count on “many of the most advanced features that this technology allows in terms of services and in terms of security and communication encryption”. The first steps were taken in Aveiro.
Altice Labs is one of those responsible for the design and construction of the new FiberGateway XGS-PON router. This is “a high-end device that guarantees high speeds, maximum Wi-Fi 6 coverage indoors and the best service experience under any circumstances, even when using multiple devices at the same time.”
The promise remains that Altice Portugal “will soon make new services based on XGS-PON technology available to consumers and businesses, gradually throughout the country, continuing the pilot project that has now begun”.
