Mark Zuckerberg, the creator of the social network “Facebook”, announced last Wednesday a novelty in the “empire” meta structure: the promotion of Nick Clegg. Over the past few years, Clegg has already been a face of technology on sensitive topics such as content review, elections, or the creation of a supervisory body – but he is now taking on more important roles.
Mark Zuckerberg, in the post where he explained that the Briton will have a great leadership role, wrote on the same level that Zuckerberg is in charge of products and Sheryl Sandberg is in the business area.
With this promotion, Mark Zuckerberg, as well as Sandberg, who performs functions as COO, are expected to become less involved in issues of the company’s “politics.”
Nick Clegg was already in charge of the field of “politics” relations, but now he will have active responsibilities in conversations with governments and in the form of a public presentation of products and also the work of the company, according to Mark Zuckerberg.
Bearing in mind the wide range of issues that will be Nick Clegg’s responsibility, he will report directly to Mark Zuckerberg, so far he has been answering to the Director of Operations.
“With Nick taking on this new leadership role, it will allow me to focus more of my energy on leading the company as we build new products for the future and this will support Cheryl as she continues to focus on the success of our business,” explains Mark Zuckerberg’s note.
Nick Clegg, 55, has worked at Meta since late 2018, still in the wake of the Cambridge Analytica scandal. That year, the role played by Facebook in the referendum on the UK’s exit from the European Union, in 2016, as well as in the US presidential election, which gave Donald Trump the victory, became public.
The appointment of the former British politician, who was deputy prime minister of the United Kingdom between 2010 and 2015, to the position comes at a time when Meta is pushing for the metaverse – touted as Zuckerberg’s next big plan for the company.
