A court in Maine ruled on Wednesday that the state's election authority will have to reevaluate the decision to exclude Donald Trump from the Republican primary, similar to what happened in Colorado.
According to the CNN InternationalMaine Supreme Court Justice Michaela Murphy said the Supreme Court's decision to suspend Colorado's former president “changes everything about the order in which these cases should be decided and by which court.”
Thus, Murphy ordered Shana Bellows, a Democrat and Maine Secretary of State, to reanalyze the decision to deem Donald Trump ineligible for that state's Republican primary.
The Maine Election Commission decided to exclude Donald Trump at the end of last year, and this is the second decision in the same direction. The state of Colorado had decided shortly before that Trump would not appear on the ballot in the primary elections, citing his involvement in the attack on the Capitol building in January 2021, but the decision was suspended.
Maine excludes Trump from next year's presidential primaries, and California keeps him in
The Republican primaries in Maine and Colorado are scheduled for March 5, known as Super Tuesday, due to the large number of states holding primaries on the same day.
