“Today I spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin, who congratulated me on the electoral victory, wished good government and strengthening relations between our two countries,” the future Brazilian ruler wrote on the social network Twitter.
He added, “Brazil is back and seeks dialogue with everyone, and is committed to searching for a world free of hunger and peace.”
On the other hand, the Kremlin reported in an official statement that “in a telephone conversation with the elected President of the Federative Republic of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Putin congratulated him on his victory in the elections (…) and wished him success in his work for the state.”
The memorandum added that both parties expressed their certainty that the strategic cooperation between Brazil and Russia – which are part of the BRICS group along with India, China and South Africa – will continue to strengthen in several areas.
Putin and Lula da Silva also hoped to consolidate relations within the BRICS and within the framework of participation in international organizations.
Brazil’s progressive leader won the presidential election in October, after receiving more than half the vote in the second round against the incumbent, Jair Bolsonaro.
Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva is scheduled to open on January 1, 2023.
