NVIDIA, Twitch, and OBS have announced the arrival of the Enhanced Broadcasting Beta, which lets you do up to three live streams simultaneously at different resolutions. The new feature creates multiple codecs for live streaming to transmit it in high quality and with low latency, ensuring a stable experience on all devices accessing the content.
This feature is built into OBS and uses the NVENC encoder, found in RTX and GTX series GPUs, to create simultaneous streams at up to 1080p resolution. Thus, a viewer with a stable connection (i.e. with a higher bandwidth) can enjoy the best possible quality, while someone using a cell phone with a slower connection can also follow the live stream without many interruptions.
Some Twitch partners have streaming functionality in several different codecs, but the service's coverage is limited and it can't reach all creators on the platform. The new tool can make this feature available to more people directly through OBS, as long as they have an NVIDIA RTX series GPU.
NVIDIA reports that all configurations are done automatically by OBS: “The server algorithm will return the best possible configuration to OBS Studio based on your streaming device setup, eliminating the hassle of adjusting settings for the best viewer experience,” the company reveals.
The partnership is beneficial for all three organizations: NVIDIA is able to harness the hardware power of its GPUs, OBS provides more options for organizing streams, and Twitch is able to bring more and more to life at different resolutions. Future plans include support for 4K resolution, up to five simultaneous streams and new codecs, such as AV1, that improve video transmission efficiency.
The trial version is available now
The improved streaming has launched in closed beta on Twitch and should be available to testers by the end of January. It is possible to register in twitch.tv/broadcast, But places are limited.
