“The mega-project of Greater Eurasia deserves a detailed discussion. It will be implemented sooner or later. As Russian President Vladimir Vladimirovich (Putin) said, it is possible that other countries will join in,” Tokayev said at the plenary session of the Forum. A Eurasian economic event to be held in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan.
Tokayev noted that other similar mega projects, such as China’s New Silk Road, already have many participants.
In 2016, Putin proposed creating a Greater Eurasia to bring the economies of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) closer to China.
Initially, the possibility of European countries’ participation in this project was also expected.
“The Russian president made a completely rational proposal to engage interested countries in the integration process. We have here the Chinese project of the New Silk Road, as well as other countries that are really expressing their interest in joining the integration processes in the Eurasia region.”, Tokayev considered.
The Eurasian Economic Forum took place the day before a summit of European Union leaders comprising Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Russia, where the priorities of this group will be discussed in the midst of unprecedented sanctions against Moscow over its military campaign in Ukraine.
UEE was officially announced on January 1, 2015 and covers an area of more than 20.8 million square kilometers, with a population of over 182 million.
