according to ReutersThe Islamic State group has claimed responsibility for a knife attack in western Germany.
An unnamed security source told Amaq, the propaganda agency of ISIS, that “the perpetrator of yesterday’s (Friday) attack against a gathering of Christians in the German city of Solingen is a fighter from ISIS.”
According to a brief statement posted on his Telegram channels, the informant said the attacker, whose name was not mentioned, carried out the attack “in revenge for Muslims in Palestine and elsewhere,” without providing further details.
The stabbing incident took place at around 9:45 p.m. local time (an hour earlier in Lisbon), in the historic center of Solingen and close to a theater where a Diversity Festival concert was taking place.
After randomly stabbing several people, the attacker managed to escape amid the ensuing chaos, and according to police, his whereabouts or identity remain a mystery.
Authorities have identified the three victims as two men aged 56 and 67 and a 56-year-old woman. Four of the injured are in critical condition, two are in serious condition and two are in mild condition.
Police this morning arrested a 15-year-old boy who is suspected of having prior knowledge of the attack and failing to act to stop it, but investigators believe he is not the attacker, who is still at large and may have acted alone.
