Iran’s nuclear negotiator is asking the United States for a “realistic” approach to recovering the agreement signed in 2015, during a meeting with Enrique Mora, political director of the European External Action Service in Tehran.
After meeting with Mora, the European co – ordinator of the nuclear deal, Ali Bakri Ghani said, “If the US side is realistic, we can reach an agreement,” the Iranian foreign ministry said in a statement.
Bageri and Mora “exchanged views on the status of negotiations in Vienna and concluded an agreement limiting Iran’s nuclear program in exchange for lifting sanctions.”
Mora, who arrived in Tehran on Saturday, also met with Iranian Foreign Minister Hossain Amir Abdollahyan ahead of his trip to Washington.
The Iranian diplomat said on Saturday that one of the most important issues in defending the deal was the sanctions on the Revolutionary Guard, an elite military force subject to US sanctions from 2019.
Mora’s visit comes at a time when talks have stalled, following Russia’s written assurances that trade and military ties with Tehran would not be affected by sanctions imposed on Moscow over its military invasion of Ukraine.
As for Russia, the United States would have given these guarantees, but now Iran insists that the attitude of the Americans does not allow the agreement to be finalized.
Iran has been negotiating with Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Russia and China with the indirect involvement of the United States in rescuing the 2015 nuclear deal, which limited the country’s nuclear program in exchange for lifting sanctions and signing it years later. Negotiations.
In 2018, the administration of former President Donald Trump abandoned the agreement and re-imposed tough sanctions on Tehran, which responded a year later by accelerating its nuclear efforts and enriching uranium.
