The Portuguese Institute of Youth and Sports (IPDJ) confirmed on Thursday that the health of athletes was never at risk due to problems with hygiene conditions at the Centro de Alto Rendimento do Jamor (CAR Jamor) in Oeiras.
He added: “Since we consider that this matter has been revealed in a disturbing manner, we want to provide all available information, in a transparent manner, so that there are no doubts. “The aim of this conversation is, specifically, to inform and ensure that the health of the athletes was at no point at stake,” Vitor Patacco, president of IPDJ, said in a statement, at a meeting that brought together athletes, parents, guardians and representatives of sports federations with athletes residing in CAR Jamor.
In the document released today, the International Institute for Democracy and Justice explains that the meeting contributed to clarifying recent events, which were made public, regarding hygiene conditions in the cafeteria and the CAR Jamor residence, where 70 athletes live.
Vitor Patacco, president of the International Institute for Democracy and Justice, stressed at the meeting that the four recent events calling into question hygiene conditions in space are unrelated to each other.
“Allegation of food poisoning, sighting of cockroaches, complaint of bed bugs in one of the rooms, and inspection by the Food and Economic Security Authority (ASAE). He emphasized that they had one thing in common: they were concentrated in the same short period, some on the same day.
Patacco stated that the International Institute for Democracy and Justice views “the situation very seriously, but it also represents an opportunity to improve reception conditions.”
The meeting, which lasted more than two hours, also included representatives of companies that provide meal services and pest control, in addition to the heads of the Olympic and Paralympic sports committees.
However, the International Institute for Democracy and Justice confirmed that it maintains “enhanced monitoring regarding the issue of cockroaches and bed bugs,” adding that it has obtained a guarantee from the responsible company that “there is no record of pests in the CAR Jamor cafeteria and accommodation facilities.”
Recently, Athletes and Managers News and Reports denounced the lack of conditions and minimum hygiene and health requirements in the CAR Jamor cafeteria facilities, and referred to an inspection conducted by the Food and Economic Security Authority (ASAE), following a complaint of which I was aware. Infestation by cockroaches and bugs.
On Sunday, the Portuguese Sports Federation called on the government to take the necessary measures to resolve the situation, considering that “it is not at all acceptable to present this lack of conditions to those who raise Portugal’s name to the highest mast for this.” The world outside.”
