She’s one of the fan-loved characters the most, and Short Round marked the second movie. But why was he left out of ‘Indiana Jones and the Mark of Destiny’?
With Indy’s fifth adventure about to open in theaters, some pertinent questions arise about some of the characters left out. After Shia LaBeouf, as the son of Indiana Jones, has been sidelined to make room for his beloved daughter, played by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, it’s time to note the lack of one of the most beloved characters by fans, Short Round, played by her. Ke Huy Quan, who last year won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. Despite interest in returning to the franchise, the actor has confirmed he won’t be appearing, and the director explains why.
In an interview given to IGNJames Mangold explains that it’s not about not wanting the character in the new movie, but rather, which characters would be best served in the movie. After a female character who “challenged” Indiana Jones, the director didn’t want more adults in this adventure. However, the future of the franchise could bring the character back. For Harrison Ford, this will be the last time he will play Indiana Jones, however, Disney and Lucasfilm do not exclude the continuation of the saga. And in a future movie, or even a series, Short Round could be the center of attention.
“Indiana Jones and the Marker of Fate” opens in theaters tomorrow! The cast also includes Mads Mikkelsen (“Fantastic Beasts: The Dumbledore Mysteries”), Boyd Holbrook (“Logan”), Antonio Banderas (“Unknown”), Toby Jones (“The Extraordinary Life of Lois Wayne”), Thomas Kretschmann and many more.
