Dare John Zubrzyki to write A Brief History of India, summarizing in 300 pages the complexity of a country whose history predates that of China
If all countries were private, then India might be the most private of them all. This country of 1.4 billion people, which just overtook China in terms of population, four years earlier than the forecasts in this book (published in English last year), is perhaps the greatest confluence of cultures in the entire world, as well as an inexhaustible resource A spiritual tradition that has spread around the world and continues to attract pilgrims from all over the world. With a history older than that of China–narrated by John Zubrzyki of the Harappa Civilization, 5,000 years ago–, India has grown in interaction with the cultures of its time, which still brings surprises today. One occurred in 2001, when much of the world became aware of the presence of two colossal sixth-century Buddhas in Afghanistan, where the Gupta and Buddhist style of Indian art coexisted with the subtleties of Greek art.
