Espirito Santo Governor Renato Casagrande (PSB) last week participated in the LIDE Brazil Conference 2023 meeting in London, England, bringing together more than 250 businessmen, world leaders and officials from Brazil and the United Kingdom. . The manager was one of the speakers at the “Environment: Brazil’s New Positioning” panel. The event also featured discussions on the country’s economic and social progress.

During his work in the European country, Casagrande reinforced the importance of Espírito Santo representation in international events, especially considering the creation of public policies with an environmental theme. In his absence, Vice-Governor Ricardo Ferrazo (PSDB) took over as Acting Governor.

“As governors, we bring the perspectives we have in our states and what we can contribute to the country at this time. The world is demanding clear positions from Brazil on democracy, climate change and returns on investments in infrastructure. States have a role in these matters”, said Capizaba, president of the Brasil Verde Consortium, a group of subnational organizations that articulate measures to address the effects of climate change and reduce carbon emissions in the country.

Brazil’s delegation included Helder Barbalho, governor of Pará, who heads the Interstate Consortium for Sustainable Development of the Amazon; Co-Chairman of International Resource Group Apart from the United Nations (UN) and former Environment Minister, Izabella Teixeira, Governor of Rio de Janeiro, Claudio Castro.

During the conference, Casagrande also presented Espirito Santo’s potential to key international investors. “Our economy is linked to international trade. We are the number one producer of iron pellets in the country and the third producer of steel in the state. We stand alone in pulp production and the third largest oil and gas producer. Additionally, the state is the second largest producer of coffee beans, topped by Conilon coffee,” he pointed out.

The capixaba representative also spoke about the importance of capacity. “Even though it is not a big state in terms of land area and population, Espirito Santo has these important positions. Our talent puts us in this important position in many fields. To be competitive, we have to be efficient, that’s what the world demands of everyone”, he said.

At the start of the event, the UK’s Minister for Business and Trade, Nusrat Ghani, highlighted the importance of cooperation between the UK and Brazil in clean energy production and noted Espírito Santo’s potential in the sector.

Ghani highlighted the need to tackle climate change by increasing sustainable energy production and said the United Kingdom is keen to expand its partnership with Brazil in this area. The minister also highlighted hydropower and sustainable energy as areas of great interest for cooperation.
