The United Kingdom, which includes England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, is set to co-host the Euro 2028 edition with Ireland.. The deadline for submission of applications ends next Wednesday, but so far no interested country has come forward.
Only the official UK-Ireland auction has been submitted to UEFA so far. If the same situation persists until the end of Wednesday, the process of securing headquarters could be expedited. The UEFA Executive Board is expected to announce the results on April 7.
After the United Kingdom and neighboring countries gained support from UEFA, other interested countries withdrew from the process. Prior to that, the British government had expressed a desire to host the 2030 World Cup, but a study by the Football Federation of England found that there were “uncertainties” in the plan.
The last edition of Euro 2020 (held in 2021 due to the Govt-19 epidemic) took place in 11 cities in 11 different countries. The next will be in Germany in 2024.
