“noI will not die, people. Thus Alexander Lukashenko, the President of Belarus, dismissed speculation regarding his health condition.
The Belarusian head of state appeared in public on Tuesday and ended up dispelling rumors that he was seriously ill.
“I’m not going to die, guys,” Lukashenko told some officials during a meeting, according to a video provided by Paul Pervovo, a state media outlet that reports on the head of state’s activities, as reported by Reuters.
And the 68-year-old Lukashenko, who looked gruff, said at the meeting that he had contracted adenovirus.
“If anyone thinks I’m going to die, calm down,” he said, adding that although it took him three days to recover, he was too busy to take a break from work.
He concluded, “I’m not going to die, guys. You’ve got to fight me for a long time.”
It should be noted that rumors about the health status of the Belarusian leader appeared on May 9, as part of the Victory Day celebrations, in Moscow, in which he appeared with a tired look. After that, Lukashenko was absent from the celebrations on the Day of the National Flag, the Emblem and the State Anthem, on which he usually speaks, and the independent Belarusian newspaper Zerkalo even gave Lukashenko a trip to the hospital.
The President of Belarus reappeared in public on May 15, after a six-day absence, with a bandage on his hand.
