In Martim Moniz, as already happened in other parts of the country, another day of the Week of Solidarity with the Palestinian People was held, under the slogan “Peace in the Middle East.” “Independent Palestine.”
As night fell, a light rain fell, a stage car, lights, speakers and video, dozens of people accepted the challenge and lay or sat in a large area covered in plastic, many wearing white sheets scattered with red, in reference to the “victims of genocide.” In the Gaza Strip.
In the large surrounding square, those present raised banners, Palestinian flags, and posters. “Stop the aggression. Peace in the Middle East”: “Recognition of the national rights of Palestine”, under the slogan of Juventude Comunista Portuguesa, youth of the Portuguese Communist Party (PCP); “Palestine will triumph,” or a bolder statement, “No to Nazi Zionism, 75 years of genocide.” Free Palestine.”
In this gathering, people of all ages participated, but most of them over 50 years old, many wearing Palestinian scarves, who came to invite the supporting organizations: CGTP- Intersindical Nacional, the Portuguese Committee for Peace and Cooperation (CPPC), and the Movement for the Rights of the Palestinian People. Palestinian People and Peace in the Middle East (MPPM) and Projeto Ruído – Youth Association.
To the sounds of Palestinian music, the first slogan “Palestine will triumph!” echoed, shortly before the arrival of Mariana Mortagua and Paulo Raimundo, leaders of the Escuerda bloc and the Palestine Communist Party, who decided to join the event.
A Palestinian woman in a traditional wedding dress speaks in English and pays tribute to a friend who she says was killed on her wedding day in the Israeli bombing of Gaza, which began the day after a surprise attack by the Islamist group Hamas on October 7 and which was extended until November 24.
