Professionals working in the city’s health network and the 12 other cities that make up the health district will be able to participate, on Tuesday (28), in a symposium on the fight against syphilis, held by the city hall. The aim, according to the municipality, is to offer SUS care flows and protocols to people diagnosed with the disease, especially pregnant women and newborns.

In Betim, epidemiological surveillance data indicate a gradual increase, over the past 10 years, in the reporting of syphilis in the municipality. From 2010 to 2022, the incidence of acquired syphilis rose from 3.3 to 101.4 per 100,000 population – an increase of almost 31-fold.
The incidence of syphilis in pregnant women increased from 1.7 to 33.6 cases per 1,000 live births. For congenital syphilis, this increase was from 1.7 to 14.7 per 1,000 live births.
