In the area of health, the only thing missing was the fact that mayors had to go to the door of the responsible minister to request an audience. It happened to those in charge of some municipalities in the Setúbal region who, after trying to contact Manuel Pizarro through institutional channels, had to go to the minister’s door, accompanied by televisions, to ask for attendance.
Afterwards, they were able to be received by the Chief of Staff of the Minister and had a meeting with Manuel Pizarro on December 20.
What I doubt is that, in the next 20th day, the Mayors will receive reinforcements with medical means from the Ministry of Health which they intend to provide to Setubal Hospital.
What the mayors want, quite simply, is to appoint more doctors who are “permanent, well-mannered, motivated and with working conditions”.
But it seems that for the government is asking for the moon.
The current health policy (does it exist?) has already thrown Bozran over the edge. Adalberto Campos Fernandes and Marta Temido locked the door for reasons that remain to be explained today. However, it does not hurt to realize that what is behind his dismissal is the lack of conditions for exercising his job without political “burning”. In other words, financial resources open their doors and make it possible to hire more doctors and health professionals, on a permanent basis and with good working conditions.
Health is today one of the most terrible disasters for the current government. The Prime Minister, in addition to the usual statistical rhetoric of thousands and millions of investors in health, is now talking about the need for a network of hospital emergencies and the reorganization of the entire SNS system. Yes, but did it take seven years to come to that conclusion?
In the field of health, the law is not being complied with in relation to patients with the most serious diseases. Waiting times for consultations, oncological surgeries and heart diseases are becoming obsolete, endangering the lives of Portuguese people who suffer from those diseases, which are the deadliest diseases in Portugal, at risk.
Never in our democratic existence has there been such a drastic deterioration of the social networking system. Despite the dedication and selflessness of health professionals, the lack of human and material resources in hospitals leaves hospital emergencies and hospital services without the proper quality justified by the taxes we pay.
What is currently happening in healthcare, where users wait dozens of hours in hospital emergencies, is certainly not what Antonio Arno and Joao Semedo envisioned for SNS.
There is clearly a social sensitivity to this CEO regarding health. This alone can justify the continuous deterioration of the social networking system over the years of rule by the current executive branch. Which, let’s face it, isn’t in PS’ DNA. Suffice it to recall Antonio Guterres or Jorge Sampaio. Guterres came to power, making health and education his main political goal, as “the people come first”. As for Jorge Sampaio, who does not remember the phrase, “There is more to life than helplessness.” Well, people’s life, health and education are the main pillars of a modern and developed society. Health is vital to the well-being of the population, and education is essential to the development of society and the development of youth.
With this government, social policy seems to be running out of deficit. Thus, it is probably more effective for the mayors of the Setubal district to go to the door of the Ministry of Finance and ask for more human and financial resources for the hospitals in their district. It is possible that Minister Fernando Medina will receive them before the Children’s Emergency Service of Setubal Hospital closes again!
