Health efforts will accelerate early diagnosis and treatment of cancer among women

This plan falls within the Pink October initiatives, which represent measures to combat the disease.

This announcement was made on Wednesday (4), during a ceremony held at the Palacio do Campo das Princeas, the seat of the state government, in the center of Recife.

The 27th of this month marks the National Day to Combat Cervical Cancer.

According to the government, even with the initiatives developed, the number of cases remains high in the state.

It is estimated that 2,880 new cases of breast cancer and 770 new cases of cervical cancer will be diagnosed each year between 2023 and 2025.

At the ceremony, Dr. Cynthia Avila gave a speech about the need for early diagnosis and treatment of cancer.

She said she discovered a lump in her breast in 2022, when she was 52 years old.

“I touched and noticed it. Since I am a doctor and have the information, I was able to undergo treatment immediately. This is essential. Anyone with cancer is in a hurry,” she said.

During the event, the state Department of Health reported that breast cancer currently ranks first in Brazil and that cervical cancer is the third most common.

Therefore, the state decided to make joint efforts to provide care line services.

At the event, Governor Raquel Lira (PSDB) launched the Notice of Authorization to Certify the Women’s Trailer.

The governor explained that four of these trucks will move around the state to serve five thousand people per month. She said this is one of the measures to change the cancer situation in Pernambuco.

“We are launching this task force for women’s welfare. We have to work mainly on the most vulnerable people. We intend to make Pernambuco a reference in this work,” he said.

The aim is to expand the offer by decentralizing screening and diagnostic procedures for breast and cervical cancer to complement the public network of the Unified Health System (SUS) of the State of Pernambuco through a mobile unit.
