Health centers operate without heating. Users and healthcare professionals have reported discomfort.
The two health centers in Baja operate without heating. According to a source close to the local health unit of Baixo Alentejo (ULSBA), “This situation has been going on for more than a month and there is no prospect of it being resolved.”
The same source revealed to Radio PAX that “the majority of air conditioning equipment in the health centers in Mertola, Mora and Almodóvar” are in the same condition.
With temperatures dropping to two degrees and potentially falling further, it will be difficult for professionals and users to feel this thermal discomfort, especially in the morning.
“Imagine what it is like on a cold morning, like today, at 8 a.m. to be there in that room for more than an hour,” said Manuel Andrade, 78, a user of the health center in Rua Rainha Doña. Amelia, in Beja.
“I have heart problems and I am here with cold feet. This cannot be tolerated,” he added.
A doctor from the same health center told Radio Pax that, “In order to be examined, many users have to take off their clothes, which is really embarrassing. For my sake and for the people.”
In contact with Pax Radio, the ULSBA admitted that it was aware of the situation and that “the issue is being resolved.” It all depends on the availability of the company (in Beja) to repair all the equipment.
