The cost of health care was more pressing for more than two-thirds (67%) of the 26,000 respondents, while pensions and weather were cited at 60% and 56%, respectively, the Tamedia newspapers wrote on Sunday.
That’s not surprising: Health concerns, especially prices for mandatory plans, are a perennial issue, and costs are expected to rise more than usual this year; The pension system and its financing (the subject of an upcoming national vote) is also a frequent source of distress.
However, concerns about Covid-19 have subsided sharply. While the same survey conducted last December put the virus in third place (more than 50%), this time with 11% it didn’t even make it into the top 10.
new anxiety
Looking at the current crisis, the survey also asked people for their opinions on a potential energy crisis: In fact, about two-thirds think shortages will be felt this winter, while more than 40% say they are buying supplies.
On the question of what to do about it, the most common solution has been to switch to renewables, with the next most common solution being the continued use of existing nuclear plants, and an energy deal with the European Union.
However, only 39% said they would support building more nuclear power plants – as a new initiative wants – and thus overturning a 2017 voter decision to phase out atomic energy in Switzerland.
As for the government’s preparations for a possible shortage, a majority (65%) believes that ministers will be able to take appropriate measures to secure supplies.
